Job Summary:
The Center for Advanced Molecular Imaging (CAMI) is seeking a Preclinical Imaging Technologist who will be responsible for carrying out mouse imaging studies for various disease models (cancer, cardiovascular, neurological, etc.) and drug discovery using preclinical MRI, SPECT, and CT scanners. Primary job duties include animal and radiotracer handling, basic operation of scanners and other equipment (under a senior engineer’s guidance), and routine tasks for lab upkeep. The successful candidate is expected to rigorously follow all guidelines and regulations regarding animal research and radiation safety, and be very organized, detail-orientated, and motivated to learn new skills in a small animal imaging setting.
This individual will be a member of CAMI and joining a team of research scientists and technicians, who are part of the Chemistry of Life Processes (CLP) Institute, dedicated to the development and intercalation of preclinical imaging and drug discovery, to perform translational research. CAMI encompasses over 5,000 square-foot, dedicated to small animal imaging, and is equipped with state-of-the-art preclinical imaging systems, including MRI, optical, and SPECT/CT scanners. Additionally CAMI has its own microscopy suite, cell culture room, and vivarium. CAMI works very closely with the Center for Developmental Therapeutics (CDT), which is also part of CLP. CDT develops many of the animal models that are used in CAMI. Toxicology and biodistribution studies are often performed by CDT prior to imaging.
The ideal candidate will have experience with preclinical SPECT/CT studies. We would consider candidates with solid small animal experience and with a willingness to learn preclinical imaging. Candidates with strong in vivo imaging experience (PET/SPECT or MRI) but willing to learn animal handling techniques will also be considered.
Job Qualifications:
- BS or BA in Animal Science, Biology, Zoology, Veterinarian Science, or a related science;
- Proven work experience in small animal experimentation;
- Prior experience working with radioactive materials strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Two to four years of work experience in small animal studies in academia or industry;
- Proficiency in animal studies including IP, IV, SC injections, oral gavage, and blood collection;
- Prior imaging experience is desired, but not required;
- Must be organized and be meticulous in record keeping;
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with members of a multidisciplinary team;
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
